SpendNode Rating for Solid Card

3.9/5
Best for: stablecoin savers who want yield and 3% USDC cashback on one free card

The Solid Card is a free virtual Visa on a Safe smart account: 3% USDC cashback from day one (up to 5% via points tiers), zero card fees beyond 1% FX, and Borrow Mode so savings keep earning vault yield while you spend. We tested the full onboarding and card issuance from Malaysia in August 2026.

Custody and cost are the strengths; the trade-offs are a virtual-only card with no ATM path, modest cashback caps ($50/month in Core), a young platform, and savings yield that runs below the up-to-6% marketing (4.4% observed).

Also relevant for Stablecoin Spending.

Solid Card Overview

Free Non-Custodial Visa - 3% USDC Cashback From Day One, Up to 5% via Points Tiers

The Solid Card is a free virtual Visa issued by Rain for Solid (solid.xyz), a non-custodial stablecoin savings platform built on Safe smart accounts. It pays 3% to 5% cashback in USDC depending on the holder's Solid Rewards points tier, charges no card fees beyond a 1% FX fee on non-USD transactions, and is available in 49 countries, including the US across 30+ states.

Savings stay invested while the card spends

Solid separates savings from the card's spending balance. Stablecoins can remain in a yield vault while a wallet float funds purchases over Visa. An optional Borrow Mode can instead draw against savings as collateral, but its terms must be checked in-app.

The card has no issuance, top-up, monthly, or standard transaction fee. Every verified member starts with 3% USDC cashback. The 4% and 5% rates must be earned through the points program over weeks or months, so this review uses 3% in its starting-rate calculations.

We tested the full flow from Malaysia in August 2026: passkey signup, KYC in about 2 minutes, and a live virtual Visa the same morning, added to Apple Pay before lunch.

Solid Card specs

Physical and Virtual Cards

The Solid Card is virtual-only. It is created in-app after identity verification, with no order step or shipping wait. There is no physical card and no ATM access, so it does not suit anyone who needs cash withdrawals.

Payment Network

The card runs on Visa and is accepted at 200M+ merchants online and in-store. Its Visa Platinum benefits include 24/7 Visa customer service, purchase protection, price protection, extended warranty, and global auto rental insurance. Visa provides these benefits, not Solid.

Apple Pay and Google Pay provision with one tap on mobile. On the web app (app.solid.xyz), you add the card manually using its details.

Security Features

Freeze and unfreeze work instantly in-app, with real-time payment notifications and a live transaction view showing merchant, category, and the exact cashback earned per purchase. Account access is passkey-based through Turnkey: keys never leave your device's secure hardware, and there is no password or seed phrase to phish. Large transfers can require a second approval factor.

Getting the Card

Sign up through SpendNode's Solid link - our referral code 75LP9 rides in the link and pays you a $10 USDC bonus once the card is issued and you spend $75 across 3 or more payments at different merchants within 30 days. Create a passkey (no password, no seed phrase), pick a username, and your Safe wallet deploys automatically.

From the Card tab, tap Get your card and run identity verification; Solid quotes about 2 minutes, which matches what we saw. The card activates immediately after KYC and adds to Apple Pay or Google Pay with one tap. Fund with USDC or USDT on any of six networks, or via your Virtual Account's ACH and wire details, and you can spend the same morning.

How Spending Works: Transaction Flow

Example: an RM212 (about $50) grocery run in Kuala Lumpur

Step 1: Fund. You have previously deposited USDC and moved it to Savings, where it sits as soUSD earning vault yield (4.4% APY at the time of our test).

Step 2: Tap. Apple Pay authorizes against your balance (Savings Mode) or against your savings as collateral (Borrow Mode). The merchant is paid in ringgit; Visa converts at network exchange rates, and Solid adds a 1% FX fee because the transaction is non-USD. Total cost: about $50.50.

Step 3: Cashback calculates. At the Core tier, 3% of $50 is $1.50 in USDC, assuming you are under the $50 monthly cashback cap. The pending amount is visible in the transaction's details immediately.

Step 4: Cashback lands. About 14 days after the transaction settles, $1.50 USDC credits to your Solid account. If the purchase is refunded, the cashback is removed.

The 14-day lag is the one part of the flow that feels slow against competitors that credit weekly or instantly. It exists because cashback waits for merchant settlement to clear reversals.

The Three Tiers: One Card, Three Earn Rates

The tiers are not products you buy - they are levels you reach, and everyone starts at the bottom. That matters for how you should evaluate this card: sign up expecting 3%, and treat anything above as a loyalty payoff.

Prime and Ultra caps - $100 and $200 monthly cashback ceilings, the $50-per-service subscription cap, and the same zero-fee schedule. Only the earn rates change as you climb.

Two further tier perks are announced but not live: subscription cashback (Prime 25% on eligible services in 2 categories, Ultra 50% in 4, capped at $50 per service per month, with Spotify, ChatGPT, and Netflix shown in the app) and savings yield boosts (+2% APY for Prime, +5% for Ultra). The app marks both coming soon, and Solid's Rewards terms state coming-soon features may change or never launch. Nothing in this review's math counts them.

How long Prime and Ultra take

Points accrue four ways: 1 point per hour for every $1 held in a Solid vault (USDC, ETH, and FUSE vaults qualify), 1 point per $1 of card spend, 1 point per $1 swapped in the app, and 10% of referred friends' daily points.

Solid app Rewards benefits screen: How do you earn points - Save 1 point per hour for every $1 deposited, Spend 1 point per $1 spent, Invite friends earn 10% of their daily points

SpendNode app screenshot

The accrual streams in-app - Save is hourly, while Spend and Swap award points once per dollar. Hourly balance points dominate the tier calculation.

The hourly structure makes deposits wildly more powerful than spending. A dollar in Savings earns 24 points every day it sits there; a dollar spent earns 1 point, once. Concretely:

  • $2,000 saved: 48,000 points/day. Prime in about 104 days. Ultra is not realistic.
  • $10,000 saved: 240,000 points/day. Prime in about 21 days; Ultra in about 5 months.
  • $30,000 saved: 720,000 points/day. Prime in about 7 days; Ultra in about 7 weeks.
  • $70,000 saved: 1.68M points/day. Ultra in about 3 weeks.

A $2,000/month card spender earning points from spend alone would need more than two centuries to reach Prime. The higher rates reward stablecoin balances, not loyalty spending.

The rational strategy follows directly. Deposit what you would hold in stablecoins anyway - the balance earns 4.4% vault yield regardless of tier, so the points are a free byproduct. Chasing Ultra with capital you would not otherwise keep in DeFi is buying a $100/month cap increase with tens of thousands of dollars of strategy risk.

Borrow Mode: Promising, but Read the Terms In-App

Savings Mode spends your balance directly. Solid describes Borrow Mode as borrowing against savings so the vault position remains invested while transactions authorize against collateral.

The collateral is a dollar-denominated vault position rather than volatile crypto. Solid's public documentation does not publish the borrowing cost, loan-to-value ratio, repayment mechanics, or treatment of unpaid balances.

Check those terms in-app before using Borrow Mode. The scenarios below use a wallet spending float instead.

The conservative way to use the card, and the one our scenarios below assume, is simpler: keep your savings earning in the vault, hold a spending float in your wallet, and spend from balance. The yield on the parked savings continues either way.

Foreign Exchange: Advertised vs Reality

Solid's homepage says "No fees, ever." The in-app fee sheet lists 1% FX on all non-USD transactions, converted at network exchange rates. There is no additional cross-border or international transaction fee, and USD transactions carry no card fee.

For the card's actual audience this matters. Outside the US and the dollarized markets on the list (Ecuador, El Salvador, Panama, and several Caribbean territories), day-to-day spend is non-USD and the 1% applies. A Malaysian user putting RM4,300 (about $1,000) a month through the card pays about $10/month in FX; at Core with the cap binding at $1,667, the effective net rate on $1,000 of spend is 3% minus 1% = 2% net. Compare that honestly:

  • RedotPay charges no FX markup on its rate but pays far lower base cashback.
  • Plasma One Lite also charges 1% FX with 2% cashback on the first $500 - Solid's 3%/$50-cap beats it on net rate for spend between $500 and $1,667.
  • A traditional Malaysian bank card charges 1-3% FX with no cashback at all.

Visa supplies the network exchange rate. Solid then adds the disclosed 1% fee.

Limits and Restrictions

Cashback exclusionsRefunds, reversals, cash advances
Bank deposits (Virtual Accounts)First-party unlimited; third-party capped at $4,000

Geographic restrictions have two layers. Cards cannot be issued to residents of Belarus, mainland China, Cuba, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Myanmar, Nepal, Nicaragua, North Korea, Russia, Syria, Turkey, Ukraine, Venezuela, or Vietnam. An issued card also cannot be used while physically inside Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, Ukraine, or Venezuela, regardless of the holder's residence.

If Solid shuts down

Funds held in the Safe smart account are not pooled in a custodial exchange balance. That limits the bankruptcy exposure associated with an exchange holding customer assets.

Access is the unresolved issue. Signing depends on passkeys and Turnkey's key infrastructure, and Solid has not published a self-recovery procedure for reaching the Safe without its app. The assets remain on-chain, but recovery after a shutdown is untested.

Savings-allocated funds carry strategy risk. soUSD represents shares in DeFi vaults (BoringVault infrastructure, ERC-4626 with withdrawal queues and automated risk controls, monitored by Check Point). An exploit in an underlying strategy could impair Savings balances specifically. Wallet balance held outside Savings is not exposed to this.

Pending cashback is program risk. With a 14-day settlement lag and monthly caps, your maximum unpaid cashback exposure is small - two weeks of accrual, at most a few hundred dollars for a capped Ultra user, typically under $25 for a Core user.

The card program is Rain's. Rain, a Visa Principal Member, issues for several major crypto programs (Plasma One and Avici among them). If Rain or Solid ended the card program, spending stops but your wallet is untouched. No deposit insurance applies anywhere in this stack - balances are crypto assets, not bank deposits.

Real User Scenarios

Scenario 1: Amira (KL freelancer, $8,000 saved, RM5,200/mo ≈ $1,200 spend)

Setup: Deposits $8,000 USDC to Savings, keeps a monthly spending float in her wallet for card spend.

Results after 6 months: Reaches Prime in week 4 (192,000 points/day). Month 1: $36 cashback (Core, under cap). Months 2-6: $48/month at Prime 4%. FX costs about $12/month on ringgit spend. Savings yield adds roughly $29/month at 4.4%. Net over 6 months: about $380 in USDC cashback and yield after FX costs, on a card that cost nothing.

Takeaway: Monthly cashback is roughly three times the FX charge at this spending level, while the savings balance continues earning variable vault yield.

Scenario 2: Rafael (São Paulo consultant, $30,000 saved, $2,500/mo spend)

Setup: Parks $30,000 in Savings as a dollar hedge against the real, spends $2,500/month.

Results after 6 months: Prime in 7 days, Ultra in about 7 weeks. At Prime, 4% on $2,500 hits the $100 cap exactly; at Ultra, 5% pays $125/month, under the $200 cap. FX about $25/month. Yield roughly $110/month. Six-month net: about $1,200.

Takeaway: The calculation works because the $30,000 was already being held in dollars. Depositing that amount only to chase a higher card tier would add far more capital risk.

Scenario 3: Dana (Austin nurse, $2,000 saved, $500/mo USD spend)

Setup: Small emergency fund in Savings, card for streaming and eating out. US spend, so zero FX.

Results after 6 months: Stays in Core until month 4 (Prime at ~104 days). Cashback: $15/month at 3%, then $20/month at 4%. Yield about $7/month. Six-month net: about $145, all fee-free.

Takeaway: Dollar spending avoids the 1% FX fee, so the full tier rate applies until the monthly cashback cap binds.

How the Solid Card Compares

For LatAm, Africa, and Southeast Asia: RedotPay is the custodial incumbent with physical cards and ATM access; Solid beats it on cashback rate and custody model but cannot dispense cash. Rizon competes in the same emerging-market footprint on the paid Emerald tier; Solid's 3% is free.

For self-custody purists: Plasma One offers the same Rain-issued, self-custodial architecture with higher headline rates but pays in volatile XPL and gates its top tier behind a 100,000 XPL lock. Gnosis Pay is Safe-based but EEA/UK-only. Solid extends the Safe-based card model to parts of Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean.

For yield-first savers: ether.fi pays banded USDC cashback with deeper caps and serves Europe, but its stack (DAO token, restaking) is more complex, and it skips most of Solid's LatAm and Caribbean map.

Where Solid differs: it combines a free virtual Visa, a Safe smart account, USDC cashback, and a dollar-denominated savings vault. Borrow Mode can use that vault as collateral, subject to terms shown in-app.

Who the Solid Card suits

The Solid Card suits people who already hold stablecoin savings and live inside its 49-country map. It is free, issues in minutes, and pays 3% in USDC from day one while a separate wallet float can cover spending. The value depends on accepting the vault's DeFi risk and the 1% FX fee outside dollarized markets.

Skip it if you need cash: there is no physical card and no ATM path, and that alone disqualifies it for markets where cash still dominates daily life. Skip it too if you spend far beyond the caps (above $1,667/month the Core rate dilutes fast), if you want the 5% headline immediately (35M points is a months-long, deposit-heavy grind), or if DeFi strategy risk on your savings is a dealbreaker - the yield engine is audited and monitored, but it is not insured.

The card works best as a spending feature attached to savings you already planned to hold. Start with the 3% Core rate, treat Prime and Ultra as long-term tiers, and keep announced subscription and yield boosts out of the calculation until they launch.

Sources and Verification

All card specs, fees, and limits verified from:

Card mechanics, fee schedule, tier table, and coming-soon status verified in-app through hands-on testing from Malaysia, August 2026, including full onboarding, KYC, and card issuance. Cashback rates, caps, points accrual, and referral terms confirmed against Solid's Rewards Terms and Conditions and in-app help documentation.

User scenarios are composite illustrations based on published rates, caps, and fees; individual results vary with spend mix, FX exposure, and the variable savings yield.

FAQ

Does the Solid Card have an invite code?

Yes. SpendNode's Solid referral code is 75LP9, and it is applied automatically when you sign up through SpendNode's Solid link. It pays a $10 USDC bonus once your card is issued and you spend $75 across 3 or more payments at different merchants within 30 days.

Is the 75LP9 code for the Solid Card working in August 2026?

Yes. 75LP9 is still a working Solid referral code as of August 8, 2026 - we re-verify it regularly. It applies through our link and pays a $10 USDC bonus after your first $75 of card spend.

What does the Solid Card cost?

Nothing. Card issuance is free, and there are no top-up, monthly, or standard transaction fees. The only card charge is a 1% FX fee on non-USD transactions. The rewards tiers are free too - they are unlocked by points, not payment.

How does the cashback work?

Eligible purchases earn USDC cashback at your current tier rate: 3% in Core (capped at $50 per calendar month), 4% in Prime ($100 cap), 5% in Ultra ($200 cap). The Core cap binds once you spend about $1,667 in a month. Cashback is credited roughly 14 days after the transaction settles, and each purchase shows its exact cashback in the transaction details.

Can I get the 4% or 5% rate right away?

No. Prime needs 5,000,000 points and Ultra 35,000,000, and points accrue over time - mainly 1 point per hour for every $1 held in a Solid vault, plus 1 point per $1 spent or swapped in the app. In practice $10,000 held in Savings reaches Prime in about 3 weeks; Ultra takes about 5 months at that balance, or 3 weeks at $70,000. Everyone starts at 3%.

Is the Solid Card really non-custodial?

Yes. Your funds sit in a Safe smart account that only you control, secured by passkeys through Turnkey rather than seed phrases. Solid cannot move your assets, and the balance stays in your wallet until a card transaction settles against it. The card itself is issued by Rain on the Visa network.

Can I spend without giving up my savings yield?

Solid describes Borrow Mode as drawing against savings collateral while the soUSD position remains invested. However, its public documentation does not publish the borrowing cost, loan-to-value ratio, repayment terms, or liquidation mechanics. Check the current terms in-app before relying on Borrow Mode; the conservative alternative is to keep savings in the vault and fund card spending from a separate wallet balance.

Is the Solid Card available in my country?

The card is available in 49 countries across Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East, including the US across 30+ states. Notable exclusions include India, Turkey, Israel, Vietnam, mainland China, and Russia. Savings works worldwide even where the card is not yet available - check your country in-app under the Wallet tab.
