KAST X Card Review 2026
Premium tier chromoly metal Visa Infinite card with 2% USD cashback (capped at first $10K/mo) plus 1% KAST Points on all card spend. 0.5-1.75% FX fee. Also available as Solana Illuma and Bitcoin Black designs.

SpendNode Rating for KAST X Card
KAST X is the point where the program starts asking for commitment rather than curiosity. That makes it a harder sell, but also a clearer premium product.
This is where KAST switches from casual to committed. 4.0 on Product Utility is the strongest in the KAST premium lineup, and the points structure rewards heavier use. Whether that justifies the annual fee depends entirely on how much you spend and how much the ecosystem perks matter to your actual life.

What Is the KAST X Card?
The KAST X Card is the Premium tier 100% chromoly 32g metal Visa Infinite prepaid card offering 2% USD cashback on the first $10,000 of monthly card spend (max ~$200/mo) plus 1% KAST Points on all eligible card spend (uncapped). KAST replaced its previous 5% Season 5 points + 4% $MOVE cashback program with USD cashback in May 2026. SOL staking pays 0.5 KAST Points per 1 SOL per Solana epoch (~2 days). Also available as the Solana Illuma (metal that lights up when tapped) and Bitcoin Black (black metal) designs, all with identical economics. Card issuer: Third National.
Instant virtual card issuance, Apple Pay and Google Pay support, USDC, USDT, and USDe stablecoin spending. $1,000/year annual fee, 0.5-1.75% FX fee on non-USD transactions, $3 flat plus 2% ATM fee, 2-minute KYC via Sumsub, metal physical card included plus a free Standard physical card, global availability in 170+ countries via Visa.
The X Card is KAST's Premium-tier flagship metal card. At $1,000/year it earns 2% USD cashback (vs 1.5% on the free K Card), with a $10,000/mo cashback cap (vs $2,000/mo on Standard) and a 1% KAST Points stream that the Standard tier does not earn. SOL staking jumps from 0.25 to 0.5 KAST Points per SOL per epoch.
The break-even question is direct: 2% × $10,000/mo cap × 12 months = $2,400/year maximum cashback. That comfortably covers the $1,000 annual fee at sustained near-cap spending. Below ~$50,000/year ($4,167/mo), pure cashback math does not cover the fee. The Premium tier then has to be justified on the Visa Infinite network benefits (purchase protection, travel insurance, discounted lounge access via Visa Airport Companion), the included metal card and free Standard physical, and the KAST Points secondary stream.

KAST Premium tier designs captured in May 2026. X Card, Solana Illuma, Bitcoin Black, and Pengu Black share identical economics: 2% USD cashback on the first $10,000/month plus 1% KAST Points on eligible card spend.
Physical and Virtual Cards
- Virtual card: Instant issuance upon signup. The X Card virtual + physical count as one slot toward the 10-card maximum
- Physical card: 100% chromoly steel, 32g weight. Included in the $1,000 annual fee. Membership also includes a free Standard physical card
- Additional Premium cards: Available via KAST Concierge, with pricing shared on request rather than published
- Design options: X Card (chromoly), Solana Illuma (metal that lights up when tapped on the Solana logo), or Bitcoin Black (black metal), same economics
Payment Network
- Network: Visa Infinite (V2 cards)
- Acceptance: 150M+ merchant locations in 170+ countries
- Contactless: Yes (NFC)
- Mobile wallets: Apple Pay, Google Pay (0% additional fee)
- Card type: Prepaid (top-up with USDC, USDT, or USDe)
- Card issuer: Third National
- Visa Infinite network benefits: Accessed through the Visa Benefits Portal (visabenefitslac.axa-assistance.us). Includes purchase protection ($20,000 limit), price protection ($4,000 limit), extended warranty ($25,000 limit), travel accident insurance, lost luggage / baggage delay coverage, auto rental damage waiver, and Visa Airport Companion (discounted lounge access, not unlimited free). For many protections to apply, the entire cost of the item or trip must be charged to your KAST Visa Infinite card. Benefits have terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions, and are managed entirely outside the KAST app
Security Features
- Prepaid model: Maximum loss limited to loaded balance (no overdraft, no credit risk)
- Card controls: Freeze/unfreeze via KAST app
- Transaction alerts: Real-time push notifications
- KYC: Required via Sumsub (takes approximately 2 minutes)

Fees and Rates
| Fee Type | Amount |
|---|---|
| Annual fee | $1,000 |
| Top-up fee (stablecoins) | 0% |
| Card spend fee (USD) | 0% |
| FX fee (non-USD) | 0.5-1.75% (varies by country) |
| Small transaction fee (non-USD < $25) | $0.10 |
| Declined transaction fee | $0.50 |
| ATM fee (USD) | $3 flat + 2% |
| ATM fee (non-USD) | $3 flat + 2% + 0.5-1.75% FX |
| ATM withdrawal limit | $250/withdrawal, $750/24hr (3 withdrawals) |

| Physical card | Included (1 free X Card + 1 free Standard physical) |
| Additional Premium cards | Via Concierge (pricing on request) |
| Card transaction limit | Unlimited |
| Account deposit limit | Unlimited |
| Account balance limit | Unlimited |
Transaction fees are identical across all KAST tiers. The $1,000/year fee buys (a) a higher cashback rate (2% vs 1.5% Standard), (b) a much higher monthly cashback cap ($10,000 vs $2,000 Standard), (c) a 1% KAST Points secondary stream that Standard tier does not earn, (d) a metal Visa Infinite card with Visa Benefits Portal access, (e) 1 free additional Standard physical card, and (f) a doubled SOL staking rate (0.5 vs 0.25 KAST Points per 1 SOL per epoch). It does not reduce FX or ATM fees.
Limits
| Limit | Amount |
|---|---|
| Card transaction limit | Unlimited |
| Account deposit limit | Unlimited |
| Account balance limit | Unlimited |
| Monthly USD cashback cap (spend qualifying for cashback) | $10,000 |

How Spending Works
Example: $200 dinner in San Francisco (USDC-funded, USD merchant)
Step 1: Top up your card
- Transfer USDC, USDT, or USDe to your KAST card balance
- Stablecoin deposits converted 1:1 at 0% spread
- Non-stablecoin token deposits auto-converted at 2-5% fee (varies per token)
- 0% top-up fee on stablecoins
Step 2: Pay at the restaurant
- Tap via Apple Pay or present the chromoly metal card
- Restaurant charges $200
- 0% card spend fee on USD transactions
Step 3: Settlement
- USDC converts to USD at 0% spread
- No FX fee (USD-to-USD transaction)
- Transaction completes via the Visa Infinite network
Step 4: Cashback and KAST Points accrue
- USD cashback: 2% of $200 = $4.00 (assuming you are below the $10,000/mo cap)
- KAST Points: 1% of $200 = 2 KAST Points (no cap on Points)
- Cashback enters your Rewards Balance immediately, locked for 14 days; after unlock you tap Redeem in the app to apply it as a discount on your next card purchase
- Cashback cannot be withdrawn to fiat or to an external wallet
Compared to the free K Card on the same transaction:
- K Card cashback: 1.5% × $200 = $3.00 (Premium earns $1 more per $200)
- K Card KAST Points on card spend: 0 (Premium earns 2 more per $200)
- Premium advantage on $200 of spend: +$1 cashback + 2 KAST Points
International example: $200 at a restaurant in Paris (EUR merchant)
- Cashback: 2% × $200 = $4.00; KAST Points: 1% × $200 = 2 Points
- Additional cost: 0.5-1.75% FX fee = $1.00 - $3.50
- Net at 1% average FX: $4.00 cashback - $2.00 FX = $2.00 net positive (plus 2 KAST Points). At the 1.75% worst case: $4.00 - $3.50 = $0.50 net positive. Premium stays net positive on non-USD spend across the FX range, unlike the Standard tier which can flip negative.
Rewards on This Tier
The X Card earns USD cashback as the primary reward and KAST Points as a secondary uncapped stream.
| Reward | Rate | Cap |
|---|---|---|
| USD cashback | 2% | First $10,000/mo of card spend (max ~$200/mo, ~$2,400/yr) |
| KAST Points (card spend) | 1% | None |
| KAST Points (SOL staking) | 0.5 KAST Points per 1 SOL per Solana epoch (~2 days) | None |
USD cashback redemption: Cashback accrues at the moment a transaction is authorized, sits locked for 14 days in your Rewards Balance, and then must be manually redeemed via "tap Redeem" in the KAST app. Redeemed cashback moves to a spendable sub-balance and is automatically applied to your next card purchase. It cannot be withdrawn to fiat or to an external wallet. Refunds or chargebacks on cashback-earning transactions can claw back the related cashback.
KAST Points: Earned uncapped on all eligible card spend at 1%. KAST has not published a token conversion ratio for KAST Points post-May-2026. Treat them as platform loyalty, not a guaranteed future token.
Break-Even Math
At $1,000/year, the X Card needs to recover its fee through cashback, KAST Points, and Visa Infinite benefits combined.
Cashback Break-Even
The 2% USD cashback caps at $10,000/mo of qualifying spend, so the maximum annual cashback is 2% × $10,000 × 12 = $2,400/year. To cover the $1,000 annual fee from cashback alone, you need:
| Annual Fee | Required Annual Cashback | Required Annual Spend at 2% (within cap) |
|---|---|---|
| $1,000 | $1,000 | $50,000 (~$4,167/mo) |
At $4,167/mo or higher you are net positive on cashback alone. Below that, the cashback covers part of the fee and the remaining gap has to be made up by KAST Points value, Visa Infinite benefits used, or your subjective value of the metal card and free Standard physical.
Premium vs Standard Cashback Comparison (USD Domestic)
| Monthly Spend | Standard Cashback (1.5%, $2K cap) | Premium Cashback (2%, $10K cap) | Extra Annual Cashback |
|---|---|---|---|
| $1,000 | $180/yr | $240/yr | +$60 |
| $2,000 | $360/yr (cap) | $480/yr | +$120 |
| $3,000 | $360/yr (cap) | $720/yr | +$360 |
| $5,000 | $360/yr (cap) | $1,200/yr | +$840 |
| $10,000 | $360/yr (cap) | $2,400/yr (cap) | +$2,040 |
The Premium tier's larger $10,000/mo cap is the structural advantage. Above $2,000/mo, the Standard tier stops earning while Premium keeps accruing up to $10,000/mo. Below that crossover, Premium earns proportionally more but the difference rarely justifies the $1,000 fee on its own.
Annual ROI by Spending Level (USD Domestic, Cashback Only)
| Monthly Spend | Cashback (2%, capped at $10K/mo) | Annual Fee | Net Guaranteed (Cashback Only) |
|---|---|---|---|
| $1,000 | $240 | -$1,000 | -$760 |
| $2,000 | $480 | -$1,000 | -$520 |
| $4,167 | $1,000 | -$1,000 | $0 (break-even) |
| $5,000 | $1,200 | -$1,000 | +$200 |
| $10,000+ | $2,400 (cap) | -$1,000 | +$1,400 |
KAST Points (1% of card spend, no cap) and the Visa Infinite network benefits sit on top of these numbers. KAST Points have no published token value, so they cannot be priced into the break-even today. Visa Infinite benefits (purchase protection, travel insurance, discounted lounge access) have value if you actually use them. For occasional travelers and online shoppers, the included coverage can be worth several hundred dollars per year on its own.
FX Impact on Net Returns (Non-USD Spenders)
| Spending Profile | Cashback + KAST Points | FX Range | Net Effective Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premium tier (any spend within cap) | 2% cashback + 1% Points = 3% gross | 0.5% - 1.75% | +1.25% to +2.5% |
Premium stays net positive on non-USD spend across the FX range, unlike the Standard tier which can flip negative at the 1.75% worst case. KAST publishes this directly as the "net effect": Premium up to 2.5%.
How This Tier Compares
For premium crypto cards:
- ether.fi Luxe: 3% USDC cashback, $0 annual, metal card, self-custodial, 0% FX in supported countries. ether.fi wins on zero annual fee, self-custody, and a higher headline cashback rate paid as withdrawable USDC. KAST X Card wins on global availability (170+ countries vs ether.fi's narrower regional footprint) and the Visa Infinite network benefits. For pure cashback dollars, ether.fi pays more for any spend level since the X Card is gated by an annual fee.
- Crypto.com Royal Indigo: 3% CRO cashback, $4,000 CRO stake (180 days), unlimited lounge access. Crypto.com wins on guaranteed cashback rate and unlimited Priority Pass lounge access. KAST X Card wins on lower upfront capital commitment ($1,000 fee vs $4,000 staked + lockup) and on USD-denominated cashback (versus CRO token risk).
- KAST Luxe (Solana Gold Card): $10,000/yr, 3% USD cashback on $50,000/mo cap plus 2% KAST Points + VIP Concierge. Luxe makes sense at extremely high spend levels where the $50,000/mo cap and the membership benefits (24K gold card, 2 free additional cards, VIP Concierge, VIP events) carry value. Below ~$30,000/mo of spend, Premium is more efficient.
X Card's place in the market: A Premium metal Visa Infinite at $1,000/year that earns capped USD cashback (2% on $10,000/mo) plus uncapped 1% KAST Points and a doubled SOL staking rate. The cashback is paid in USD, but locked inside KAST's redemption flow (14-day timelock, manual redeem, applied to next card purchase only). The 32g chromoly construction is one of the heaviest card materials in the crypto card market.
Real User Scenarios
Scenario 1: Marcus (San Francisco Product Manager, $4,000/month, USD domestic)
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Monthly spend | $4,000 |
| Duration | 12 months |
| Total spend | $48,000 |
| USD cashback (2% × $4,000/mo, within $10K cap) | $80/mo, $960/yr |
| FX cost (USD domestic) | $0 |
| Annual fee | -$1,000 |
| KAST Points on card spend (1%) | 480 KAST Points/yr |
| Net guaranteed (cashback minus fee) | -$40 |
Marcus is paying ~$40/year above his cashback to access the Premium tier. The 480 KAST Points earned over the year sit on top of the cashback. KAST has not published a token conversion ratio post-May-2026, so Marcus treats them as a non-priced bonus. He also gets the Visa Infinite Benefits Portal (purchase protection up to $20,000 and travel accident insurance), which he uses occasionally for online electronics purchases. The metal card and the included free Standard physical card are pure quality-of-life upgrades over the K Card. For Marcus, the X Card is roughly break-even on hard cashback math, with the Visa Infinite benefits, KAST Points, and metal card as the value-add over staying on the free K Card.
Scenario 2: Lisa (Amsterdam Marketing Director, EUR 2,500/month, 70% EUR / 30% international)
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Monthly spend | EUR 2,500 (approx. $2,700) |
| Duration | 12 months |
| Total spend | approx. $32,400 |
| USD cashback (2% × $2,700/mo, within cap) | ~$54/mo, ~$648/yr |
| KAST Points (1%) | ~324 KAST Points/yr |
| FX cost (est. 1% avg) | -$324 |
| Annual fee | -$1,000 |
| Net guaranteed (cashback - FX - fee) | -$676 |
Lisa faces the FX drag. At an estimated 1% average FX on all spending (since EUR is non-USD), she loses $324/year in FX alone. Cashback of ~$648 minus FX of $324 minus the $1,000 fee leaves her -$676 on cashback economics. KAST Points help close the gap if KAST eventually issues a token at meaningful value, but with no published conversion ratio she cannot price them.
She compared this to ether.fi Luxe which offers 3% guaranteed USDC cashback at 0% FX and no annual fee. ether.fi would earn her approximately EUR 970/year guaranteed with zero downside risk. For non-USD spenders, the X Card's economics on cashback alone do not pencil out. Lisa would only choose the X Card if she actively uses the Visa Infinite Benefits Portal (travel insurance, purchase protection, lounge discounts) and values KAST Points as optionality.
Scenario 3: David (Dubai Crypto Fund Analyst, $6,000/month, 50% AED / 50% international)
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Monthly spend | $6,000 |
| Duration | 12 months |
| Total spend | $72,000 |
| USD cashback (2% × $6,000/mo, within $10K cap) | $120/mo, $1,440/yr |
| KAST Points (1%) | 720 KAST Points/yr |
| FX cost (est. 1.25% avg) | -$900 |
| Annual fee | -$1,000 |
| Net guaranteed (cashback - FX - fee) | -$460 |
David is the high-volume international case. At 1.25% average FX, his $72,000 annual spend generates $900 in FX costs. Cashback of $1,440 minus $900 FX minus $1,000 fee = -$460 net. Premium still under-water on cashback alone for his FX profile. He stays at Premium because he uses the Visa Infinite portal heavily for travel insurance on frequent flights, and because KAST Points may have value later. For a strict cashback play at his FX level, ether.fi or a 0% FX alternative would be cheaper, but neither has the Visa Infinite portal that he actually uses.
He considered the Solana Gold Card ($10,000/yr, 3% on $50,000/mo cap) but the math does not work at $6,000/mo: 1% more cashback on $72K = $720 extra cashback, nowhere near the $9,000 in extra annual fee. The X Card is the right tier for his spending level.
Is the KAST X Card Safe?
Same risk profile as the K Card with three Premium-specific considerations:
Your $1,000 annual fee:
- Non-refundable. KAST does not offer prorated refunds for unused months if you cancel early. Auto-renew can be enabled or opted out 30 days before expiry; failed renewals trigger a 7-day grace period before reverting to Standard
- Mitigation: Only subscribe if you can afford to lose the $1,000. The annual fee buys access to a higher cashback rate, a higher cap, KAST Points, and Visa Infinite benefits, not stored value
Your loaded card balance:
- Held by Third National (regulated US banking partner)
- In a KAST platform failure, recovery depends on Third National's protections
Your earned USD cashback:
- Sits in your KAST Rewards Balance, locked for 14 days after each transaction
- Once redeemed, moves to a spendable sub-balance and is automatically applied to your next card purchase
- Cannot be withdrawn to fiat or to an external wallet. If KAST goes offline or restricts your account, accumulated cashback may be inaccessible
- Refunds or chargebacks on cashback-earning transactions can claw back the related cashback (first from Rewards Balance, then from card spending balance if Rewards is empty)
Your KAST Points:
- Earned at 1% on card spend uncapped, plus 0.5 KAST Points per 1 SOL per Solana epoch on staked SOL
- KAST has not published a token conversion ratio or TGE timeline post-May-2026
- The previous "1 KAST Point = 1 KAST token at TGE" framing is no longer in KAST's documentation
- Treat KAST Points as platform loyalty rather than a guaranteed future token. They may have token-like value later, or they may not. KAST has not committed either way in writing
Visa Infinite network benefits:
- Managed entirely outside the KAST app via the Visa Benefits Portal
- For many protections to apply (price, purchase, extended warranty), the entire cost of the item must be charged to your KAST Visa Infinite card
- Lounge access is via Visa Airport Companion at a discounted rate, not free unlimited access
- All benefits have terms, conditions, and exclusions
Who Should Choose This Tier
Use the KAST X Card if:
- You spend $4,000+/month in USD and want a real cashback advantage over the free K Card (Premium's $10K/mo cap means you actually use the higher rate at this volume)
- You spend close to or above $4,167/mo (the cashback-only break-even point against the $1,000 fee)
- You want the Visa Infinite Benefits Portal (purchase protection, travel insurance, discounted lounge access) and you actually use it
- You want a metal card with global Visa acceptance and a free Standard physical card included
- You want exposure to KAST Points at 1% on all card spend plus 0.5 KAST Points per SOL per epoch on staked SOL, without having to commit Luxe-tier capital
Skip the KAST X Card if:
- You spend under $2,000/month: the free K Card is more efficient (the extra cashback rate does not cover the $1,000 fee at low spend)
- You want guaranteed stablecoin returns paid as withdrawable USDC: ether.fi Luxe (3% USDC, $0 annual, 0% FX in supported countries) is structurally better on cashback math
- You spend heavily in non-USD currencies and your FX averages above 1%: Premium can stay net positive on FX-adjusted return, but the cashback edge over the K Card narrows significantly
- You want self-custody. KAST is custodial. Consider Gnosis Pay or ether.fi
- You expect to need cashback as withdrawable cash. KAST cashback is locked into the platform and applied only to your next card purchase
Our view: The KAST X Card after the May 2026 restructure is a Premium tier where the value case shifted from points-farming to a more conventional metal Visa Infinite cashback card. At $4,000+/month spend, cashback covers most of the fee and the metal card, free Standard physical, KAST Points, and Visa Infinite benefits start to pay for themselves. Below that spend level, the K Card or a 0% FX alternative will outperform on guaranteed dollar economics.
The X Card's structural advantage versus the K Card is the $10,000/mo cashback cap (5x larger than Standard's $2,000) and the addition of 1% KAST Points on all card spend. For users who routinely spend in the $4,000-$10,000/mo range, the Premium tier is the cashback sweet spot. Luxe at $10,000/year only pays off above ~$30,000/mo, which is a much smaller user base.
