ether.fi Core Card Review 2026
Free ether.fi membership level with 3% cashback on the first $2,000 per month, one virtual card, a physical card with shipping charged, and lounge access.

SpendNode Rating for ether.fi Core Card
Core combines a free self-custodial Visa with a strong 3% opening band, but rewards step down after $2,000 and settle in ETHFI.
The free entry price, collateralized spending option, and published reward bands support the cost and custody scores. Product complexity, a 2% ATM fee, FX costs, and ETHFI-denominated cashback keep it from being a universal recommendation.

What Is the ether.fi Core Card?
The ether.fi Core Card is the free starting level of ether.fi Cash. It is a self-custodial Visa that can spend stablecoins directly or borrow against ETH, eETH, and weETH collateral without requiring the holder to sell that position first.
Core pays 3% cashback on the first $2,000 of eligible monthly card spend, 1% from $2,001 to $3,000, and 0.5% above $3,000. The reward is converted to ETHFI when the purchase clears, locked for seven days, and manually claimable once at least $5 is available.
There is no annual fee, staking requirement, membership-purchase charge, or minimum balance for Core. The current benefit table also lists one virtual card where eligible, a free physical card with shipping charged, lounge access, ether.fi Travel benefits, and up to $10,000 of eligible account protection.

Core Card Fees and Limits
| Item | Current Core terms |
|---|---|
| Mandatory annual fee | $0 |
| Card cashback | 3% to $2K/month; 1% to $3K; 0.5% above |
| ether.fi FX margin | 0-0.5% |
| ATM fee | 2% |
| ATM transaction limit | $1,000 |
| Rolling ATM limit | 5 withdrawals and $5,000 per 24 hours |
| Fiat-to-crypto fee | 0.2% |
| Fiat-to-crypto monthly limit | $10,000 |
| Published daily card limit | $30,000 |
| Virtual cards | 1 free where eligible |
| Physical card | Free; shipping charged |
| Account protection | Up to $10,000 |
The FX figure is ether.fi's own margin. Visa's prevailing conversion rate can apply on top, so a 0% ether.fi margin is not the same as a guaranteed mid-market exchange rate. In our foreign-currency Core test, the total conversion cost was approximately 1.7% versus mid-market.
ether.fi lists editable account controls below the published tier ceiling. The lower limit shown in an account can therefore govern a transaction even when the tier's headline daily limit is higher.
How Core Cashback Works
Core's headline 3% rate is progressive rather than flat across unlimited spend.
| Monthly spend | Monthly cashback | Effective rate | Annual cashback |
|---|---|---|---|
| $1,000 | $30 | 3.0% | $360 |
| $2,000 | $60 | 3.0% | $720 |
| $3,000 | $70 | 2.33% | $840 |
| $5,000 | $80 | 1.6% | $960 |
| $10,000 | $105 | 1.05% | $1,260 |
These figures show the dollar value when the cleared reward converts to ETHFI. The amount eventually realized can rise or fall with ETHFI before the tokens are claimed or sold.
EUR spending uses different bands: 3% to EUR800, 1% from EUR801 to EUR1,500, and 0.1% above EUR1,500. ether.fi does not add an FX margin to EUR purchases.
Cards, Travel, and Protection
Core includes one free virtual card where regional issuance permits it. The physical card is also free, but the member pays shipping. Issued cards continue working if the membership level changes and automatically adopt the new level's benefits.
The current Core travel package includes:
- lounge access, subject to provider and location terms
- 5% cashback through ether.fi Travel
- up to 65% off eligible hotels and flights through the travel portal
- Visa concierge and listed travel protections
The published account-protection limit is up to $10,000. This is not deposit insurance. It applies to eligible losses from unauthorized third-party exploits of ether.fi account smart contracts, subject to the program's conditions and claims process.
Spending Against Staked ETH
The card's distinctive feature is the option to use ETH-linked collateral without selling it first. A member can hold ETH, eETH, or weETH in the self-custodial account, draw spending credit against that collateral, and keep the underlying position invested while the card balance is outstanding.
Borrowing is not risk-free. Collateral values can fall, loan terms still apply, and tax treatment depends on the member's jurisdiction and circumstances. The practical advantage is flexibility: stablecoin users can spend directly, while ETH holders can choose a collateralized route instead of automatically liquidating assets for each purchase.
Membership Points and Upgrades
Card spending earns 1,000 Membership Points per $1,000. Points reset monthly, upgrades apply when the threshold is reached, and maintaining a level during the current month secures it for the following month.
The upgrade controls for Luxe, Pinnacle, and VIP are available across supported markets. The app shows the points, Liquid, staked ETHFI, and annual-purchase routes that apply to each level.
| Level | Monthly points route | Other qualification routes |
|---|---|---|
| Core | Free | None required |
| Luxe | 5,000 | $15K Liquid, 30K ETHFI, or $199/year |
| Pinnacle | 25,000 | $100K Liquid, 150K ETHFI, or $999/year |
| VIP | Not offered | $500K Liquid or 500K ETHFI |
At $5,000 of monthly spend, Core earns $80 per month under its bands, while Luxe would earn $150 if the entire amount is eligible. That is a meaningful upgrade once the member naturally qualifies; it does not justify manufacturing spend only to reach the threshold.
How Core Compares
Core is strongest for users who value self-custody and keep most monthly spend inside the first $2,000 band. Its free 3% opening rate is competitive, and the collateralized spending option is unusual among crypto cards.
The trade-off appears at higher spend. Luxe holds 3% to $10,000 per month, while Pinnacle holds it to $50,000. International users must also account for ether.fi's margin and Visa's underlying rate rather than reading the top cashback percentage in isolation.
MetaMask Metal and Wirex are alternatives for users prioritizing a 0% issuer FX margin. Gnosis Pay is another self-custodial option, although its availability and reward qualification differ.
Who Should Choose Core?
Core fits members who want the ether.fi Cash architecture without paying for or qualifying into a higher level. It is particularly relevant to ETH holders, domestic spenders near or below $2,000 per month, and users who want to test the product before committing assets to a membership fast track.
It is less suitable for heavy international spend, frequent ATM use, or sustained monthly spend well above $2,000. Those users should compare the lower effective cashback rate with higher ether.fi levels and cards that charge no issuer FX margin.
Our view: Core is a strong free entry point, but the 3% headline needs its spend band and ETHFI payout attached. Its real advantage is the combination of self-custody, flexible funding, and a useful reward rate on ordinary monthly spend.

FAQ
Do I need to qualify for Core?
No. Everyone starts at Core, with no points, asset balance, or annual purchase required.
How do I upgrade from Core to Luxe?
Earn and maintain 5,000 monthly points, deposit $15,000 into Liquid, hold or stake 30,000 ETHFI, or buy Luxe for $199 per year. Card spending alone earns 1,000 points per $1,000, so $5,000 of eligible spend would reach the points threshold.
Does the ether.fi Core Card have a promo code?
Yes. Use a9cde4d4, or sign up through SpendNode's ether.fi link to apply it automatically.
This card requires token staking to unlock higher reward tiers. If the staked token's price drops, your losses may exceed the cashback earned. Consider the break-even math before locking funds.
You retain custody of your funds until the moment of spending. Your balance is not exposed to provider insolvency risk.
Fees shown above are the card's disclosed fees. Additional costs may apply: Visa/Mastercard network spread (typically 0.5-0.9%), crypto-to-fiat conversion spread at point of sale, and blockchain gas fees for on-chain top-ups.
