THORChain has restored trading on Bitcoin, Ethereum and several other networks after a refund bug disrupted cross-chain swaps, according to Cointelegraph's November 3 RSS update. The feed reported a 15% RUNE rally as of that update, published at 23:56 UTC. It described a restart of most swaps, with full service restoration still unconfirmed.
A Refund Error Spread Across Network Connections
Earlier reporting traced the disruption to an Ethereum block reorganization on October 31. A deposit of 10 ETH had already been credited by THORChain when Ethereum replaced the block containing it. The swap missed its price limit, and the resulting refund processing paid out an extra 10 ETH.
The recipient returned the excess funds, restoring the affected balance. Developers still had a software problem to address: returning the money did not prevent the same refund mismatch from happening again.
At 10:20 UTC on November 2, Coin Insider reported trading paused on 10 networks, including Bitcoin and Ethereum. Avalanche, Base and XRP Ledger remained enabled. A swap involving a paused network was unavailable even when its other side was open.
Bitcoin and Ethereum have since moved from that paused group into the reported restart. The November 2 restrictions and November 3 update describe successive stages of the recovery, with access restored across major networks.
Cross-Chain Recovery Depends on Each Route
THORChain's developer documentation describes separate jobs for observing incoming transactions and signing outgoing payments. Its Bifrost module scans external blockchains for transactions involving protocol vaults, then passes observations into THORChain's consensus process. A separate signer constructs and broadcasts outgoing transactions. Detecting a deposit, approving a swap and sending the destination asset are separate steps, so a functioning component alone does not mean every transaction path is available.
Coin Insider's earlier account also described separate pause settings for each chain, allowing operators to reopen one connection while keeping another closed. For users, resumed access therefore depends on the two networks involved in their particular swap. Both connections need to be available for the swap to execute. Sending funds into a connection that remains halted can leave the transaction waiting.
The reported 15% RUNE rally captures the market response alongside that recovery. For anyone already awaiting a swap, completion depends on the transaction's execution or refund status.
Overview
Cointelegraph's supplied feed reports that THORChain restarted most swaps, including Bitcoin and Ethereum trading, following a refund-related outage. RUNE rallied 15% in the same update. The outage followed an extra 10 ETH refund, which the recipient returned.
